Armed Forces Medical Institute
Armed Forces Medical Institute (AFMI) is the premier educational institute of the Army Medical Corps. Immediately after liberation in 1971 to cope with the expansion of Armed Forces and to ensure efficient medical support at all level, it was felt necessary to establish an institute for imparting training to Army Medical Corps, Army Dental Corps and Armed Forces Nursing Services officers and other paramedics on various professional matters. It came into being on 02 January 1976. To impart professional trg and run courses for AMC, ADC, AFNS offrs and ORs.
Bangladesh University of Professionals
The establishment of a university for the armed forces educational and training institutes was a long felt need. National security, war strategy, medical, engineering and technology related to higher studies are in high demand at present. To keep pace and to be at par with the fast developing world, national higher studies, research enabling modern knowledge and creating scope for education and studies are the obligations to be fulfilled. In order to expand and integrate the existing educational and training institutes of the armed forces, they were needed to be brought under a single umbrella or authority. Thereby, the establishment of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) took place in that process. BUP came into being as the 30th public university of Bangladesh on 5 June 2008. It is a unique public university run by the armed forces, and also the youngest ever university.
Military Institute of Science and Technology
Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), the pioneer Technical Institute of Armed Forces, started its journey from 19 April 1998. It was the visionary leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to establish a Technical Institute of Armed Forces. Accordingly, the Honorable Prime Minister, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina unveiled the Foundation Plaque on 19 April 1998. MIST is located at Mirpur Cantonment, which is on the northwest of Dhaka City.
