AFMC Admission

Following terms and conditions govern the admission and pursuance of the course
of study in Armed Forces Medical College:
 
Category of Medical Cadets:

AFMC Cadets 

1. After completion of internship training, AMC cadets will have to join Army Medical corps compulsorily.

1.  No compulsion to join Army. Interested candidate will have the opportunity to join the Army like graduates from other Medical colleges. They do not need to sit for written test but have to face ISSB Exam.

 

2. AMC cadets are exempted from admission fee, tuition fee, caution money, development charge, Library fee, College Magazine fee, Games & Sports fee. But they have to pay outfit, messing and laundry charges as per existing rates.

2. AFMC cadets have to pay admission fee, tuition fee, caution money, development charge, Library fee, College Magazine fee, Games & Sports fee, outfit, messing and laundry charges as per existing rates.

3. Every AMC cadet will receive Tk. 1500.00 (Taka One Thousand Five Hundred only) per month as pocket money for a period of maximum 05 years.  

 

Type of commission:
AMC Cadets will be given non-regular commission as per army instruction 3/88.
For Commission selected candidates have to undergo training at BMA, AMC center
& school and AFMI respectively. Later on regular commission will be granted after
completion of PRC Exam.
 
Ante date seniority:
After Completion of internship training , AMC cadets will join BMA as trainee officer.
In BMA, trainee officers will get the Pay & Allowances of Captain Rank but are not
allowed to wear the badges of captain rank.  After successful completion of training
they will be given captain rank along with three years antedate seniority from the
date of joining BMA.      
 
Eligibility for Admission: Bangladeshi Citizen: Candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
(1) Age - Maximum 20 years
(2) Sex - Male / Female
(3) Marital status - Unmarried
(4) Nationality -  Bangladeshi by birth
(5) Educational qualification - Must have passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or their equivalent examinations having Physics,
Chemistry and Biology in HSC or its equivalent. The minimum educational qualifications
are as follows:
     (i) The students must have total GPA 8.00 & minimum GPA 4.00 in each of SSC or its     
     equivalent and HSC or its equivalent examinations.
     (ii) For this session 2007-2008 those who have passed SSC or its equivalent examination on     
     or before 2003 and HSC or its equivalent examination on or before 2005 are  not eligible to    
     apply.
     (iii) Candidates must have GPA 3.0 in Biology in HSC or its equivalent examination.
(6) Physical Standard: A candidate must be physically fit and conform to the minimum physical standard as laid down below:

(d) Visual Standard-       6/6 (±) 2.5 corrected with glass)

(e) Color blindness is not accepted.

Weight: should be proportionate to the height as laid down in the height/weight chart of Bangladesh Army. However, 15 lbs overweight can be considered for AFMC Cadet only if otherwise found fit.
  
Eligibility for Admission:  Foreign Citizen
10% of total seat will be kept reserved for Foreign candidates to get admitted as AFMC Cadet only. Foreign candidates will have to apply through respective embassy/ Hi-commissioner and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh. If suitable candidates are not found, vacant seats will be fulfilled by Bangladeshi candidates as per merit list.  Foreign Citizen must fulfill the following requirements:
 
(1) Age -   Maximum 22 years 
(2) Sex -   Male / Female
(3) Marital status  Unmarried
(4) Educational qualification – Equivalent to minimum educational qualification    required for Bangladeshi Citizen.
(5) Physical Standard: A candidate must be physically fit. The Decision of    medical board will be final in this regard.
(6) Must abide by the rules and regulations of AFMC. 
(7) Security clearance are required form respective authority/agency.

Ineligibility for admission
(1) Found medically unfit by a medical board / appeal medical board (for AMC Cadet).
(2) Expelled or terminated from Army/Navy/Air Force or any Government service on any ground. 
(3) Twice screened out / rejected by Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB). Once rejected and once screened out candidates may apply.(for AMC Cadet).
(4) Convicted by any court for any reason.
(5) Having a break of study for more than one year
 
Number of Medical cadets:
 At present a total number of 100 medical cadets will be admitted through open competition (number of cadets may be changed by competent authority). However, thirty (30%) percent of the total seats will be kept reserved for the children of both serving and retired Armed Forces personnel. Two percent (2%) of the total seats will be kept reserved for children of Freedom Fighters and 1% for Tribal citizen of Bangladesh (one seat kept reserved for every alternate year if total percentage of seat is less than 01).
 
Male female ratio (For AMC Cadets Only) will be 70:30. [May vary as per requirements].
 
Collection & Submission of Application: For the session 2007-2008; application form will be provided from the main office of AFMC, starting from 10  September 2007 to 24 September, 2007 daily ; from 0800 Hrs up to 1600 Hrs.( Except Fridays), by paying a total Tk.600( non refundable). (Tk 50/- for admission form, and Tk550/- for college prospectus, centre fees, others etc). Duly filled application in prescribed form together with the following documents is to be submitted to Principal, Armed Forces Medical College Dhaka Cantonment.
 
(1) Attested photocopy of SSC or its equivalent examination certificate.
(2) Attested photocopy of SSC or its equivalent examination mark sheet.
(3) Attested photocopy of HSC or its equivalent examination mark sheet.
(4) Attested photocopy of HSC or its equivalent examination certificate or testimonial of last academic Institute.
(5) Equivalence certificate of ‘O & A’ levels examinations provided by the Directorate General Health Service (Where Applicable).
(6) Attested photocopy of nationality certificate mentioning marital status, character and permanent address from chairman of local union council/ ward commissioner.
(7) Wards of the Armed Forces personnel will submit application duly signed and forwarded by the Commanding Officer of their parent's unit/Officer's record/respective Arms/Services records.
(8) Wards of the Freedom Fighters will submit certificate regarding their parent's participation in liberation war duly signed by the Liberation War Affairs Ministry. Wards of Freedom Fighters of Armed Forces will submit certificates regarding their parent's participation in liberation war duly signed by the Commanding Officer of their parent's unit/respective Arms/Services records pending issuance of above mentioned certificate.
(9) Tribal candidates will have to submit certificate from respective Circle Chief and Deputy Commissioner regarding their character & tribe.
(10) Wards of Govt./ Semi govt./autonomous Institute personnel will submit duly signed certificate given by head of the institute where their parents are serving .
(11) in case of foreign candidates security clearance are required form respective authority  / agency.    
(12) Application must reach AFMC by 26 September 2007. No application will be received after 26th September 2007.
(13) Issuing of Admit cards: From 28 October 2007 to 01 November 2007 at AFMC main office during office Hr ( 0730 Hrs to 1400Hrs).

Entrance Examination:
Written examination will be held at different institution inside Dhaka Cantonment. Date , time and place of written examination will be mentioned in the admit Card.  Candidates are selected for written exam on the basis of SSC & HSC result & other documents as mentioned above.
(1) Preliminarily selected candidates will sit for written examination (MCQ)* of 100 marks and the minimum qualifying marks will be 50. Distribution of marks is as under:

* Questions of the above mentioned subjects will be HSC standard
(2) For SSC or its equivalent examination, 8 times of GPA score and for HSC or its equivalent examination 12 times of GPA score will be added to make final merit list.
 
Medical Examination:
(1) Candidates (for AMC Cadets) qualified in written examination will appear at preliminary Medical Examination. Medically fit candidates will appear ISSB in order of merit. Candidates qualified in ISSB will be examined by a medical board at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka. Date and time of medical examination will be intimated accordingly.
 
(2) Candidates (for AFMC Cadets) qualified in written examination will appear at preliminary Medical Examination. Medically fit candidates will appear viva voce examination for evaluation of communication skills, general knowledge, leadership qualities and human values. Candidates selected in viva voce exam will under go final medical checkup.
 
Appeal Medical Board (For AMC Cadets only): Candidates found "Unfit" in the medical examination have the option to apply to the Army Headquarters, Adjutant General's Branch for permission to appear before an Appeal Medical Board. The appeal must be made within 3 working days after being declared unfit by medical board. If a candidate is found "Unfit" by the Appeal Medical Board for reasons other than Height, Weight and Chest, he/she will be debarred from any further chance to apply for admission in AFMC.
 
Final Selection: The selection committee formed by the Academic Council finally selects the candidates for admission. A waiting list (Both AMC & AFMC Cadets) will be prepared on the basis of merit and vacant seats (if any). They will undergo the same procedure for final selection according to their position in the waiting list.
 
Concealing Information: Concealing information at any stage of selection procedure and its revelation later on makes the candidate liable for necessary disciplinary action/ withdrawal from the college.
 
Joining Instructions: Finally selected Candidates both AMC & AFMC cadets will receive joining instruction from the Administrative block of Armed Forces Medical College for reporting to the college.

Bond: The candidates and their parents or legal guardians are required to sign bonds on non-judicial stamps regarding terms and conditions of training, discipline etc before admission in the college. According to bond any medical cadet(AMC & AFMC) if withdrawn or expelled from the college for his or her fault the concerned parents or legal guardians will be liable to pay the government compensation in following rate:

Sum total of taka 3,50,000/- (Three lakh Fifty thousand ) & double the amount of  expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet including pocket money.

Taka 2,00,000/- (Two Lakh) & the expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

In the 2nd year of training in the Armed Forces Medical College if a medical cadet wants to leave the college & if it is accepted by the govt   or if withdrawn from the college.

Sum total of Taka 4,00,000/- (Four lakh ) & double the amount of  expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet including pocket money.

Taka 2,50,000/- (Two Lakh fifty thousand) & the expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

In the 3rd year of training in the Armed Forces Medical College if a medical cadet wants to leave the college & if it is accepted by the govt   or if withdrawn from the college.

Sum total of Taka 4,50,000/- (Four lakh Fifty thousand) & double the amount of expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet including pocket money.

Taka 3,00,000/- (Three lakh) & the expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

In the 4th year of training in the Armed Forces Medical College if a medical cadet wants to leave the college & if it is accepted by the govt   or if withdrawn from the college.

Sum total of Taka 5,00,000/- (Five lakh) &  double the amount of  expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet including pocket money.

Taka 3,50,000/- (Three lakh fifty thousand) & the expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

In the 5th year of training in the Armed Forces Medical College if a medical cadet wants to leave the college  & if it is accepted by the govt  or if withdrawn from the college.

Sum total of Taka 5,50,000/- (Five lakh fifty thousand) &  double the amount of expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet including pocket money.

Taka 4,00,000/- (Four lakh) & the expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

In the period of Internship training after passing from the Armed Forces Medical College if a medical cadet wants to leave the college & if it is accepted by the govt   or if withdrawn from the college.

Sum total of Taka 10,00,000/- (Ten lakh ) &  double the amount of expenditure borne by Armed Forces Medical College for training of the medical cadet.

Military Training:
The medical cadets are provided with basic military training in order to turn each one of them into disciplined and militarily motivated doctors. The details of the military training to be imparted are spelt out in the Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) of the college.

Professional Training:
AFMC follows under graduate medical course curriculum approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and by the faculty of under graduate medicine of Dhaka University. On successful completion of the course and on passing final MBBS examination the medical cadets are awarded MBBS degree from Dhaka University. The duration of the course is of 05 academic years excluding 01-year compulsory internship training required for regurgitation.
